Chairman Zeki Demirtaşoğlu attended the GrainTech Exhibition held in Bangalore, India between 22-23 August 2024 and officially opened the event. Given India's rapidly growing economy and its important role in the agricultural sector, this exhibition presents a great opportunity for the country's grain milling industry.
India is one of the world's fastest growing major economies with an annual growth rate of more than 7.8 per cent and a GDP of $2.5 trillion. With a population of 1.4 billion, India has a demographic structure that increases by approximately 1.5% every year. The country's foreign exchange reserves are approximately USD 595 billion, while the volume of exports and imports is over USD 700 billion. India is one of the leading producers of rice, wheat and pulses worldwide and its success in this area contributes to the vitality of the grain milling sector.
The GrainTech Exhibition at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) provides a platform for India's grain milling industry to showcase a mix of traditional and modern technologies. There are over 5,000 flour mills, 10,000 rice mills, 2,000 pulse mills, 200 soya bean plants, 2,000 spice crushing plants, 2,000 oilseed crushing units, 1,000 feed units and 1,000 coffee plants operating in the organised and unorganised sectors across India. These plants are in need of new and better technologies to improve their production, processing and packaging lines.
Chairman Zeki Demirtaşoğlu's attendance and inauguration should be considered as an important step towards strengthening cooperation between Turkey and India in the milling sector. Demirtaşoğlu emphasised the dynamic structure of India in the grain milling sector during the booth visits after the opening and stated that the technological solutions and innovations provided by Turkey in this field have a great potential in the Indian market. He also stated that the milling industry in India attracts attention with the presence of small and medium-sized enterprises and that modernisation is essential for the future growth of this sector.
GrainTech Exhibition has been an important meeting point for industry professionals who want to closely follow the developments in India's grain milling sector. Demirtaşoğlu's participation in the fair will further reinforce Turkey's strong position in this sector and its trade relations with India. During the fair, various contacts were established and co-operation opportunities were evaluated with businesses in the Indian market and information was shared about innovative solutions in the sector.
This important event is a roadmap for future steps to be taken in India's agriculture and milling sectors. The co-operation between Türkiye and India will be further strengthened in this field and will increase the success of both countries in the sector.
